Will Not Win

“Write a poem full of light
bring a hoping wish to sight! ”
I tell myself this once again;
Against my darkness I cannot win.
I try sometimes to have cheer,
but that painting will soon smear.
For my happiness will disappear.

What’s a moment for some joy?
For happiness is a decoy.
A front hiding the real truth,
of the shadow that’s within.
For the outside can be smooth
and the inside concealing greatest sin.
Against my darkness I cannot win.

Every small problem teaches me.
I think nothing when full of glee.
I’d rather with knowledge dredge
than with glee, jump off a ledge.
Against my darkness I chose not to win.
