Where the holly's overspread
And the straight road takes a bend,
An angel and a bald head
Together their way had wend.
By the chesnutt tree, the pair
Were finally lost from sight:
But the bald head shone from there
As bright as a crown of light.
The ax was heard in the forest,
The soaring bird was not missed:
But none the knowledge possessed
Of when the two had first kissed.
The angel was blonde; and he,
Of the resplendent bald head,
The trunk was which lovingly
The clinging vine overspread.
