Let’s Go Fly a Kite!

At every family picnic...
As soon as we would arrive...
We would fly homemade kites...
Out on Lakeshore Drive...

It was cheap entertainment...
Hours and hours, loads of fun...
Our parents taught us all to fly...
Always together, our family as one...

Mom made all the sandwiches...
Dad helped us make the kites...
We used old rags to make the tales...
Many afternoons full of delights...

We had big balls of string...
That seemed to go on forever...
Sometimes our kite strings got crossed...
Unknotting them was quite the endeavor...

I miss the good old days...
All the picnics out on the lake...
When we enjoyed fun times together...
The wonder years, oh forsake...
