I don’t need to be the captain
Of each and every boat...
I don’t need to be the king
Of every Mardi Gras float...

I don’t need to be that guy
Driving a big fancy car...
I don’t need to be that blowhard
Buying everyone drinks at the bar...

I want to be that person
Who will lend a helping hand...
If I see an injustice, I want to take a righteous stand...

I don’t need to be that guy
Who dresses better than my mate...
I don’t need to be that dandy
Who tries to impress her as the perfect date...

I don’t need to be that guy
Who has to be the top of his class...
I don’t need to be a bragger
Who tells his friends he’s the king of ass...

I want to be that person
Whom my friends can forever trust...
To always be a gentleman
To help another if the world becomes unjust...

So when my time is over...
I want to be judged by friends and foe...
I hope they see me in a positive light...
Because that’s the way I choose to go...
