To revive memories of the past
I walked down memory lane
I lingered by a schoolhouse wall
Then walked towards the old home
A special thought came to my mind
Of a friend that I once had
I thought of days spent long ago
And games we often played
I walked across the winding road
And down the little lane
The spreading sycamore was there
Where we used to carve our names
The swing upon its branches
Had long since been removed
So too the country churchyard
I went in solitude
Upon a new clean headstone
I saw my dear friend's name
While standing there I bowed my head
And so the teardrops came
The inscription in gold letters
Had solemn words to say
The date that my young friend was born
And the day she passed away.
