Golden Memories

Golden memories of childhood that are gone
Happy nights by the fireside with stories, games and songs
WIth a kind, caring Mother
And a Dad who also cared
After supper together then to bed up the stairs. The home it was a humble place
And luxuries were few
Vegetables were home grown, with cabbage and 'tatoes too
A turn fire burned so pleasantly
With smoke of scented blue
The cozy bed had hand-sewn quilts
Of every colour and hue. Alas, the old house is empty now
No footsteps grace the floor
No voices in the living-room
No welcome at the door
No smell of cooking in the kitchen
How I miss the happy sounds
That made the home a special place
Now loneliness abounds.
