A LITTLE LEAF

Remembering Beethoven's Septet
A little leaf once fluttered down
to t' watter
A little leaf once floated down
to t' watter
And flowing on t' little leaf
cam' t' watter
And it were flowing, t' little leaf,
on t' watter
And theer it twirled and swirled about
i' t'watter
For now that leaf were well-nigh t' same
as watter
And theer it mickle-trickled just
like watter
And theer it dandled-dawdled just
like watter
And theer it skittle-scuttled just
like water
And theer it ripple-ruffled just
like watter
That little ligging fallen leaf
on t' watter
Until tha could ha' said that t' leaf
and t' watter
Weren't one of 'em a leaf, and t' oth-
er watter
But t' watter now were leaf, and t' leaf
were watter
A little leaf once fluttered down
to t' watter
When t' watter flowed, t' leaf flowed and all.
when t' watter
Were still, then t' leaf lay just as still
on t' watter
When t' watter rose, t' leaf rose along
wi' t' watter
When t' watter fell, t' leaf fell as sharp
as t' watter
What t' watter did, t' leaf did and all
i' t' watter
This leaf it fluttered any road
to t' watter
And t' sky were blue and it were blue
i' t' watter
One glistening gleam o' blue and green
were t' watter
And t' leaf it laughed and wi' it laughed
all t' watter
But t' leaf it weren't no leaf now, it
were watter
And it were nobbut leaf, were all
that watter
That little leaf, it were my soul:
and t' watter?
A ringing o' two harps it were,
that watter
And glist'ning i' that gleaming blue
o' watter
I lay in Heaven in a sky
o' watter
In Heaven's blissful blue in all
that watter
A little leaf once fluttered down
to t' watter
A little leaf once floated down
to t' watter
