Poised
Upon the threshold of life
I stood - eager, expectantly waiting.
One hand rested lightly
On the habits of girlhood;
The other turned an uplifted palm to the future.
My eyes followed it hopefully, questioning.
Then you came.
Into my open palm you placed a kiss.
Gently you pointed the way to our future.
"Will you be my wife?" you whispered.
Trembling,
Even as a butterfly lifts its wings to the sun
'Ere it leaves the rose petal,
My heart responded.
Unafraid, I placed both my hands in yours
And stepped confidently over the threshold
To walk the ways of Life
Even into Eternity
With you.
