Geography

My four year old daughter comes home from school with a map of the world. This
is Africa she tells me. This is where we
come from. Daddy watch me color the rest
of the world. I watch her color Europe red
and all of the Atlantic. I try to encourage
the use of blues and greens but she refuses.
She sees the world with her own brown eyes.
My daughter stops coloring and prints her name at the top of her map. Jasmine- she
says like a young Columbus. Her mouth
round with wonder.
