With a determined rhythm
He fills the numbered pages
Advancing
In me
The manuscript
Of the unwritten book

An angel that devours ideas and ink
Resting in the noontide shade
Between the even halves
Of my life
Raises his heavy hand

O Lord
Beyond the horizon and beyond sight
Send me a little flame that will not be snuffed
For the upstanding candle
And the last
In the order of stars
To turn me into tallow drop by drop
In the stream of stars
In the still to come
Shining again to emerge from the dark dawn
To see how it is written
The calligraphy of death
