En Pointe
I stand up, toes facing down;
my heels, inches off the ground.
My foot’s arc begins to bend;
the rest of me starts to ascend.
Pulling up, so my nails won’t bleed;
balancing then proceeds.
I travel wide, place pain aside;
I smile and dance with utmost pride.
A dancer then floats onstage
and dances with utmost grace.
Looking up, she feels she’s flying-
It’s gravity that she’s defying.
